Caper 2010

I've never experienced anything like I had at Caper this year. This event was a present to me for Christmas (thank you mom & dad) and I could not have been more blessed to go. Kendra was able to go as well with me, so we knew that we'd have an amazing time! I cant even begin to explain how amazing it was.

Day one was full of waiting for our room, cracking "hangover" jokes with Caesar's Place employee's, and nothing but fun. Our room was INSANE... I think I could have done 10 cartwheels in a row across our room. Seriously HOOKED UP, thank you Caesar's! Every time I've gone to Vegas, it has been a little bit of trouble, in a good way. Last time I was on a secret adventure to visit Kayla with a broken air conditioner. This time we had a full free day, and we took extreme advantage of it. Drank our weight in vodka/jack starting in the afternoon and found ourselves at Diablo's enjoying pitchers of margaritas later that night. It was the first time that all of us were able to go out and an amazing start to our week o fun. I absolutely love those girls.

Day 2 was more inspirational than ever. We went to our "Kick off to Caper" event. Seeing the platform artist of JPMS put on a show for us with amazing updo's and cut's. I kind of teared up, which sounds wussy and all, but this is what it's all about. I'm so extremely passionate about this business and seeing them being so successful with 2000 future professionals screaming for them, was enough for me to see myself doing the same thing some day. We had Dean Banowitz speak, which is kind of cool because I've worked with him before in LA for his "Instyler". His assistant remembered me from our video shoot and asked me to keep in touch with her to work with them in the future. I never even realized how far this school will bring me in this business, and I can't wait to see what happens once I graduate. We had a comedian for the second half of the day, and it was hilarious. She had us call someone that we love, to tell them, because we need to realize what is important at the end of the day, and it's the love we have for people in our lives. To say the least, there wasn't a dry eye.

That evening was the White Party for all of us. It was so great to talk with my Mentors and dance with our personal DJ. There were vanilla shakes, chocolate fountains, and baked goodies all around the dance floor. SOOO delicious, Paul Mitchell sure knows how to throw a party! We were able to take pictures with "the stars of hair" and pimp our talents out. That was also the night that I started getting sick :(

Day 3 was full of class after class after class, starting at 7am. After being sick all night, I tried to be as excited as possible. As soon as we went into class, my whole day changed. I can't even explain how great each class was. Hands On experience with the best of the best teachers! SERIOUSLY?! sooo amazing. It made me feel even more excited about being a hairdresser and working on my craft. It was a long day with a 4 hours bus ride home! In-n-Out made it better of course and after writing about how fun this trip was, I AM EXHAUSTED.

Recently I found out I wont be graduating until mid-July. It's a total bust knowing that I still have 4.5 months left of school because of missing a few days and taking my leave over Christmas. I'm definitely ready to be done already, but I'll just have a little more time i suppose. Today, my roomies and I went and got boxes for moving this weekend and packed our kitchen and living room. Tomorrow or Tuesday I will be starting my disaster of a room... not looking forward to that, but definitely looking forward to moving this weekend!

New Year's Eve ended up being a blast! Although I had a run in with my boss at work, I was able to leave and be downtown by 11ish. Kendra & I tried to figure out what our plans were all day, and we ended up in are usual place. Downtown Huntington has been good to us and there is no reason to stray from that. Since 301 wouldn't let me in and there was a cover charge (are you joking?!) we made our way to our bar. It's funny because it's always been our favorite place, and we go and dance our asses off. A lot of the staff knows us, but I figured out HOW MUCH of alcoholics we must look like, because we don't even show our ID's anymore. That's kind of how it was this summer... and I had gotten use to it, until there was a new door guy, and since then, we've always showed them. It was extremely packed, but we enjoyed dancing and having fun. It was a perk that both of us had midnight kisses, but it was New Year's Eve, we would have probably had them anyways.

Then I heard from Bud. Right before the ball dropped. Efficient, but not exactly what I expected... Kendra and I left the bar & went to say hi to him & Alex. It's funny and sad at the same time, when you see someone and remember the good and stupid times, and they even out. Now it's not to say that in reality they equal out, but when there is only stupid things for the past couple weeks, THEY EVEN OUT. Kendra & I talk about EVERYTHING, we're basically attached at the hip, and when a friend says "are you kidding me? how convenient" then I know their is something wrong. Cordial was all I could be, because I still couldn't believe I had seen him. Little did I know, that would probably be the last time I saw him, since I haven't heard from him since then. How grown up.

I go back to school tomorrow, which is great because I am super ready. I hope I am still good at my craft. I only did two hair cuts over the past 3 weeks... so I've got some catching up to do. And I am on a silly sleep schedule... Jesse doesn't get off work til 2:30-3 am some nights.. so I don't wake up til 11:00 every morning. Have to get back to waking up at 7:30am! ahh, HELP.

I'm usually the cheer-y type.. you know.. looking high on my days and being happy with all of the great things I have been given. I am still happy with the things I've been given, and can't wait to see my family starting in a week or two. I am just coming to more of a realization about different things in my life. Realistic points of view, maybe?

I am in the process of trying to figure out where I want to move once I graduate. I know I still have until the end of May, but it is something I have been thinking about for a while. I've always thought I would be better out of Orange County. I've visited San Diego (which is one of the places I initially figured I would move) and have decided I don't really see myself there as much as I use to. I am more interested in looking into Santa Barbara or the Bay Area. I feel like I would be wonderful in a city, but also a laid back area. I'm not really someone who enjoys the craziness of a face-paced city. Maybe for a night out or to visit.. but not forever. I'm also nervous about finding a job and not being ready for a career once I am out of school. All of these things come piling on me because I am scared to see past tomorrow.

I love planning things. Planning my life YEARS in advanced have always been my thing, but I really don't know what I'm looking for anymore. All of the time I had spent planning my life has gone down the dump (i.e. marrying my H.S. boyfriend bc my parents' were H.S. sweethearts, Finishing college in 4 years, Moving to Spain with my ex, etc.)... I am just worried that if I plan anything else, I will screw it up. But sometimes I can't help myself. It's funny... seeing all of those "plans" written out, make me see that all of those things were for other people.. and not myself. Which only makes me realize how important it is for me to NOW do things for myself.

Also, dating Bud is coming to more of a realistic point. He wants to teach overseas, or work in another country around the beginning of the year. It's wonderful, and such an exciting adventure lies ahead for him. I couldn't be more proud of his drive to succeed and help others in the process. I kind of envy the ability to just pick up and leave. I have always wanted to travel a little before I settle into an area for a career. Financially, I have a feeling it wont happen, I will need to work to pay off school, but in my dream to live a life full of adventures, I will continue to hope I will receive the opportunity. I just don't see where the rest of this fits... and maybe that's because I am looking too far ahead. I know eventually our time together, motivating and supporting one another's goals, will get in the way of what we're looking for. And I can't decide if I'm living in a dreamland while I let real life make a fool of me.

The past weekend? "slightly-but not really-an amazing-but crazy-and totally worth it" weekend. It maybe didn't necessarily go as planned, but nothing really does, or should. I was AMAZING at golf. I just think that is probably the most important thing that came out of this time! haha. I am someone that actually prides myself and being decent at a lot of things. That is usually because I'm not extremely good at anything.. so being decent is good enough for me. I whooped some ass, and had some amazing shots. The boys were even impressed a little. I'll take that as a victory. Another victory would be the amazing "behind the back" throw in beer pong on Friday. If it is not obvious, I suck at beer pong...except for that very night. No one would be my partner in college (not even my boyfriends at the time) because they didn't want to lose. And I have no words for Friday other than "champion" so everyone can suck it. I also would like to assume that I gave a good impression to his dad, even though I don't know for sure. It usually takes a few times for people to warm up to me, or more so me to them, but it seemed "peachy" just chatting about a lot of things and nothing in particular.

There were CLEARLY some not so amazing things including:
(1) Kendra's iPhone breaking on Friday night
(2) Buying Kendra a new screen ($$$ ahh!)
(3) Being overly drunk and things
(4) Work :(
(5) Bud being sick... for the whole trip
(6) Me starting to get sick
(7) Tripping out
(8) Muscle spasms
(9) Monday morning... aka having to go home

It was worth it nonetheless. This week has been a crazy mess after he left. My blow dryer got stolen on Tuesday at school. I hate people that steal for the fun of it, and I know this because we ALL have the same "tools" at school. So the question is, WHY WOULD SOMEONE STEAL SOMETHING THEY ALREADY HAVE?? Answer: for the fun of it. I use to have friends in college that did that, but at stores in the mall, etc. Such a stupid excuse for a human-being. (On a side note: I went to the police station today and filled out a police report... I have a detective on the case, and finally get to check out the security tapes). Since then, I've become the epitome of a "resistor". In school they talk about how everyone should try to be a "visionary" and keep a positive attitude. I am pretty good at that, and even when I'm having a not as good day, I some how find myself trying to make other people's days better. Even on the bad day, I'm only a "fence sitter"... but this week.. full fledged RESISTOR. I didn't pay attention in class, I didn't want to take clients, I talked back to teachers. It's ridiculous that I allowed some petty thieve to change the way I live my day-to-day life. Luckily after my personal motivational speaker got to me, I've changed my bad behavior.

This weekend will be filled with extremely busy things.. aka work. and I am/am not looking forward to it. I can't decide yet, but I'm off to bed because the "New Moon" tickets were all sold out... I'll have to enjoy a theatre full of teeny boppers at another time.

11.06.2009

Ok, so I haven't REALLY posted in a few days. I've been out of control busy with work and school, doing 50 hours in only 4 days. I was feeling like a crazy person tonight because I knew that tomorrow I have off of work. My first mess up... I got yelled at. But I'm over it. So far I'm really enjoying my job, we've had John Elway come in more than 3 times now. Plus I've been trying the food more regularly and bringing it home in exchange for gelato from Christine's work. (so worth it). But I'm finally starting to enjoy work, and be less nervous. School is always great, I am trying to sell product bags to pay for my way to an event in Vegas. There are hands on classes, motivational speakers, a party and awesome networking possibilities. I have NO IDEA what or where I will be once I graduate, but I know this will only further my skills and be an amazing opportunity to succeed in my profession.

I can't even remember most of my week because it feels semi like a blur, but also because I can't think of anything other than that BUD IS COMING TO TOWN. It's more like a kidnapping, because I'm using force, but not too much force. I'd like to think that he's as excited as I am. It's been since the beginning of September that I've seen him, which seems a lot longer now that I say it out loud. Sometimes I feel crazy, dating someone that lives so far away, but I come back to how awesome my life is now, and how I want to share it with someone. He wont be coming until Friday the 13th (oooo, scary) but I will probably continue to countdown until he gets here.

Also, Friday the 13th is To Write Love On Her Arms day, and from 12:00pm-4:00pm. We can support people who have been trapped by depression and addiction by writing "LOVE" on our body during that time. This organization is so special to me, not because I have ever been depressed, but my family is personally affected by it. I think anyway to get the word out and have a vision to help people struggling with life, is so important because so many people are affected by this. It just has a soft spot in my heart. I already have Love tattooed on me, but I plan on writing all over my body to show my support.

"The vision is the possibility that your best days are ahead.

The vision is the possibility that we're more loved than we'll ever know.

The vision is hope, and hope is real.

You are not alone, and this is not the end of your story.

Rescue is Possible." - TW<3OHA

I have finally gotten sick. thank you mother nature and all that CA was suppose to NOT be like. I turned my heated seats on yesterday, and when I finally get out of bed, today I will too. No school for me, I'm sick as a dog. Is it possible to get rid of a cold/sinus infection in 8 hours or so?

I lost my keys yesterday, so this is day two of not going to school. I'm slightly disappointed in myself, but I have next week. And make up hours with design team. Chris picked me and Christine up for lunch and fro yo yesterday. He's the best wifey ever... especially because of the fro yo. One of my FAVORITE things ever. Christine said her work makes cakes out of gelato... good enough for me. I think I will make a holiday up so we can celebrate Gelato style.

John Elway came to Cucina Alessa last night. I remember watching him when I was little and hearing my dad and his friends cheer for him. It's weird to think I see people like that all the time here, and never once when i lived in Chicago. I did see Michael Jordan once though.

My tip "cat" my mom sent me is starting to get full. I think soon I'll be able to get to use some of it to fly to CO to see Bud. It feels like it's been forever, but surprisingly not as difficult as I expected. I think tomorrow sounds good to me, but realistically... November.

10.22.2009

i normally go to school to kick butt and do some awesome color placement on a client. Today was not what I'd say was either. Guest Speakers are usually in the morning on Wednesday. They have been recently pretty legit, and I enjoy watching people who enjoy doing the same thing as me. This morning ended up being busy work, and we did a "scavenger hunt" which ended up taking 30 minutes for the 3 hours we had booked out for. Took a long lunch and indulged at Target. I think it is completely reasonable for a 22 year old to buy Hello Kitty collectible figurines for $7.99.....

It was my wifey's birthday today. He turned 20 and was complaining about how he "was in his twenties". What a pity... he's got 9 more years to enjoy them. After we returned from lunch, we had two guest speakers. If I would have know I would be watching a bad start to a porno, I would have probably not come back from lunch. (You know, the terrible acting scene to "set up" the plot of a porno... isn't the plot the extremely overacting of sex? Completely off subject). The guy speaker called the woman speaker "honey" and then talked about his ex wife while she cringed. The they bantered back and forth like it was foreplay. I can only assume the woman was the mistress during his ex-marriage... I'm just saying...

When I couldn't take any more of it, I left school early to relax and try to get the thought of old people "getting it on" out of my head. I went to work and enjoyed at least kicking butt there. I should be on the schedule making REAL money at the beginning of next week. (whoop there it is). It was crazy though, because I swore I saw Bud's dad eating at the restaurant with 3 other people. I've only seen pictures of him, so I couldn't be sure... but I swore it was him. I almost took a secret picture just to send it to him to ask... it was much easier to just check his credit card when they paid. I was glad to find out it wasn't, because I'd rather not be introduced while I'm sweaty from working at the restaurant. And without Bud there.

this will be long... that's what she said

This weekend I enjoyed a B.W. (before work) drunk adventure that ended with a lost phone and somehow making it back to Scott's house and breaking in. I do magical things when I'm drunk, and this time was no different. Sadly, I am now left without a cellular device (again) and a hangover that lasted for more than a day. It was the last hoorah until I started into my new life A.W. (after work) similar to how life started before and after Christ.

I must not get ahead of myself... After me getting hit by a car, I have a large sized bruise that grows in size daily. It is placed nicely on the side of my calf. In school today I was even given a Victory for "not dying from getting hit by a car"... Thanks Chris.

I am mentally going a million miles a minute... physically?... I'm dead on my bed, almost. I just started my new job (YIPPIE!) yesterday and was completely overwhelmed. I wasn't really told what I was to wear/bring/do except be there at 5pm on Monday. This is tricky for someone like me, because although I wish I could claim otherwise, I love rules and when I'm told what to do. Now this is only for things such as work/school... life can suck it if I am told what I can/can't do. It was crazy realizing I know nothing of the Italian language and since this is an Italian restaurant, I could be in some trouble.

Luckily, I've found myself in a deep set of concentration. I will get all of those silly words and even possibly pronounce them right. I think I have over 50 flash cards and now a brain full of delicious food I have never tried. Except for the small amount of tiramisu I traded for a Fruit Loop Crispy Treat (thank you PMTS for forcing me to make 120 of those with half left over). Today seemed a little better, I was able to at least remember the "Specials" in my head. Let's hope my mouth will allow me to spit those out next time.

Going from school to work seems insane since I've now completely skipped dinner two nights in a row. This could be good unless I one day pass out, let's hope it stays good. I know I will get use to it, and until then, I will look at myself in the mirror morning after morning telling myself "You are absolutely crazy for actually enjoying being so busy you take less than a second to breathe".

10.01.2009

busy busy i have been. The funniest part, is I'm completely busy with things that I truly enjoy/love doing, which is kind of refreshing to my normal life. School today was suppose to be boring, with no clients in our books and just time to sit around and do NOTHING. Luckily we had our creative bubbles going, and gave each other "new do's" or styles. For normal people this sounds stupid or at least something that couldn't occupy someone for 7 1/2 hours... but for crazy hairstylist... it was a dream.

I heard something funny the other day from one of our speakers. She said that she's always being told how "crazy" she is, and that all hairstylist are crazy. She explained that all hairstylist probably are crazy and live such a fulfilling life because we already have the stereotype of having fun all of the time. She said she uses it to her advantage and really grabs life by the horns and doesn't let go. It made me laugh a little because I am usually called crazy at least 2 times a day. So I completely understand the crazy aspect, and quite enjoy it.

Although by the time I get home from school, I'm exhausted. And this has been only happening as of lately. Either I am lost on sleep or seriously work too hard (and I don't think it could be the second). I'm bored without a job, and need something to fill my time, and I can only go to the gym for so many times! I am seriously going insane without a job, and although I would be complaining if I actually had one.. at least I would be hoping on the money train. Please God, if I don't find a job soon, I might actually go crazy.

9.22.2009

fun day for school today. We did make up for Halloween and Scary movies. It was totally legit because I was COMPLETELY grossed out on multiple occasions. I initially wanted a cut on my arm, and after I saw the guy do a demo on a girl, I felt a bit sick. Absolutely realistic. Instead I practiced my bruising techniques since I myself bruise like a peach. I swear I could do absolutely nothing all day long, and have a bruise on my hip the size of a baseball. Anemic much?

This bruise turned out pretty amazing if I do say so myself, and I tried to trick many people into thinking I got beat up today at school. I think I tricked like 1 person, and then I couldn't keep a straight voice (like a straight face.. but over the phone.. same thing) but it was really gnarly.

After I've seen myself the past few days, I realize either my clothes shrink even when I haven't washed them or I get bigger (I'm hoping it's the first one).. either way, my diet starts today. I'm serious this time.. because on normal occasions I shoot the shit when I say I'm going to do something like stop eating. It's physically impossible for someone like me to do that, believe me I've tried. So me and the gym are going to become close friends that see each other daily...

the gym better not cheat on me with someone else.

9.21.2009

So I officially switched to Monday's at school. I'm more than uber excited about this, finally REAL weekends. I never thought I'd see the day :)

Last night we went to Perq's to enjoy a few of Sarah's friends play in their band. I knew it would be good when "Earl Had to Die" from the Dixie Chicks was their first song... and it wasn't a country band at all. They also had a guy come to blow up balloons for the audience which is a more amazing job than I anticipated. He made balloon penis' for the band members (dirty) and we got Homer Simpson and a monkey with a rather large penis. This guy seemed to be into that kind of thing. Better yet was the larger openly gay man who danced to every song. He hit David on the butt over 3 times, and was clearly intoxicated.

The Gay's I enjoy, but not so much this one. Very violent... we luckily left before I could encounter what he was capable of. What is it with "tough guys"? I'm so not attracted to men like that, there is no reason to start fights... although there are definitely a choice few I could think up that should get their asses kicked.

a few things perked up my day so far...

Leaving school early was the best thing I could have done today. When something you love turns into a hassle, there is a definite problem. I usually look my problems in the face and beat them up, but today I decided I could use my "anger" to kick my own ass at the gym. It worked. My legs want to crumble to the ground! I also came home and usually have my iTunes playing at all times... and Kelly Clarkson's newer CD just so happened to be on which put me in a great mood. I proceeded to dance around my room with my hairbrush and sing. Good thing my roomies hadn't gotten home from school/work :)

I also received my package from my online shopping. I was disappointed last week in my timing of my shopping rage, especially since my bail money is due next week. But no longer disappointed! They sent me a dress I didn't even order along with my other things, and didn't charge me... I can only assume I've been doing something right in my life that the higher powers wanted me to have this cute little number :P Plus the bill wasn't as high as I remember, so always a plus.

I'm interested in what else will come my way this evening, but I've already gotten the scissors out and started cutting off my jeans in hope for good weather to stick around for a little bit longer.. Let's hope I don't turn the scissors on myself for an "original" haircut...

9.16.2009

School was insanely boring. I'm not use to a wasted day, especially since I was mentally prepared to kick ass and take names. We "enjoyed" guest speaker after guest speaker and I even was on a conference call with "Be Nice" teams all over the US... boring. And the only way to make a boring day better is to have Golden Spoon for lunch right? :)

I'm surprised at myself today too. I sang for the new core and tried to jump all over my fears. It's nice to hear encouragement over a passion that has been mine for years. I was messing around on my computer earlier, trying to make acoustic versions of rap songs... it sounded more funny to say "shorty" and "hustlin" when you're a girl and trying to make it sound pretty, but it was all in fun. I think I was just trying to keep my mind busy and be patient, but I never was one to wait for what I've wanted.

Finishing up a delicious dinner and the rest of my chuck from last night. I think it is semi ridiculous that I am somehow getting use to the weather around here. I SHOULD NOT be cold at night here, not at all. I had soup for dinner... frickin soup. I cant wait to see what a wuss I am during the "winter".. and I didn't even bring my winter jackets. Silly me.
